APA ID is excited to announce that this year’s conference will be a joint effort with the Utah chapter and will take place

September 28-29, 2023
Eccles Conference Center in Ogden, Utah

We are excited to showcase great planning examples in Idaho, as well as offer our perspective on challenging topics such as housing, short-term rentals, water resources/water-wise landscapes, recreation management, climate change, etc. This joint conference offers a unique opportunity to share best practices and discuss solutions with Utah communities that have faced similar challenges. It will also feature a technical planning track and sessions for our citizen planners serving on Planning and Zoning Commissions. Early Bird pricing ends August 1st!

A note from our President

I invite you to join me in Ogden September 28-29 for this year’s first-ever, much-anticipated joint conference of the Utah and Idaho Chapters of the American Planning Association! Many of our friends from Idaho will be traveling to Utah, and Idaho will be well-represented on the conference session panels. It is not too late to register (note special rates for citizen planners and students!) and we are providing carpooling options if you want to catch a ride to Ogden (please reach out to Tricia Nilsson at pnilssonidaho@gmail.com).

This year’s program embodies the collective wisdom of our two states. We’ll cover critical topics like zoning reform, affordability, growth, and sustainability, benefiting urban and rural areas alike. The agenda offers something for all career stages, from new planners to seasoned professionals, and we have sessions that will appeal to our citizen planners and elected officials too.

For those seeking continuing education credits, most sessions will offer CM credits, and we are working hard to get sessions that meet CM for Equity, Ethics, Sustainability and Resilience, and Law.

The conference includes an Awards Reception at Alleged on Thursday evening, where we will celebrate the outstanding planning achievements of both Idaho and Utah.

On Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., we invite you to attend our chapter’s business meeting. This is our annual gathering for updates, brainstorming and decision-making that help the chapter establish key priorities for the year ahead.

Thank you to our sponsors. We are extremely grateful for your commitment to our continued mission. Your financial support makes events like this possible.

Our collaboration with Utah planners can and should extend beyond the conference. We have a unique opportunity to gain fresh insights and strategies from our Utah counterparts to address growth and housing challenges. Similarly, Utah planning professionals will draw inspiration from Idaho’s success stories, best practices, and lessons learned.

I hope to see you at the conference where we will learn, grow and inspire!
